Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine: Oriental medicine uses a unique combination of diagnostic techniques and treatment methods that incorporates acupuncture, botanical formulas and dietary changes to stimulate healthy functioning of your body.
The basis for a classical understanding of acupuncture's effects is Taoism, an ancient philosophy which has as its first principle the concepts of YIN and Yang. Taoists believe that these equal and opposite forces coexist in the universe and must be in balance for health and harmony to prevail. Energy flows through our body through a channel called meridian. The major organs in our body have meridians through which the energy circulates. Illness results from an imbalance in the flow of energy in these meridians.
Classical acupuncturists insert needles into acupuncture points on meridians to either increase the flow of energy or disperse the congestion of energy in a given organ system, in order to balance Yin and Yang. Thus by restoring the balance of Yin and Yang you restore health and vitality of the body. |
